I am running debian stretch with lightdm as display manager
and xfce as desktop environment.
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or

* What was the outcome of this action?
xfce's language is determined not by the current
language chosen in lightdm, but by the language that
was chosen in lightdm before the last login.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
Selecting a language in lightdm should affect
the current session.
