Bug#428177: libao2: Problem with arts/mcop, despite default_driver=alsa09

Package: libao2
Version: 0.8.8-2
Severity: important

Hello,

first of all, my libao.conf says: default_driver=alsa09

When trying to start zsnes, which uses libao, the following messages
appear:

| Creating link /home/theclaw/.kde/socket-speedy.
| can't create mcop directory

...so it seems zsnes tries to use arts through libao, but this doesn't work
(because there aren't any KDE daemons started I think - confusingly,
when I start any KDE application like k3b or amarok, zsnes starts
correctly and uses ALSA).

I looked in the zsnes source-code whether there is any occurence of the
string "arts" (I thought maybe the zsnes-developers did something which
overwrites default_driver), but no success. So I think this problem is
libao-related.

I'm using XFCE 4.4 if that matters. The following arts-packages are
installed on my system:

ii arts 1.5.7-2
ii libarts1c2a 1.5.7-2
ii libartsc0 1.5.7-2
ii libartsc0-dev 1.5.7-2

BTW, moving /usr/lib/ao/plugins-2/libarts.so somewhere else seems to be
a workaround for that problem.

kind regrads,
johannes
