Bug#510459: No luck reproducing this

I've tried to reproduce this issue on an installation with all the old 
library versions mentioned in the original bug report. No luck so far. 
In order to reproduce it I've tried several combinations of the following:
* Play with inaccessible ALSA (original bug report)
* Play with 2 instances in parallel using OSS
   (suggested in msg #25)
* Play with ALSA volume set to 0
   (suggested in msg #30)
* Play within a detached screen session
   (suggested in Ubuntu bug mentioned in msg #45)
* Play streaming from an icecast2 server
   (suggested in msg #40)

No hang and no valgrind error message whatsoever :-(

Maybe this is platform specific? The original bug report mentions 
powerpc, I'm trying on amd64.
