Until now we've managed to get all dependencies packaged and included
into Debian
* zope-{ofolder,managableindex,advancedquery}
* pynetsnmp
* snpp
* wmi, which does not build on arm yet, as there's no mingw32 on arm,
but that's easy to workaround (checking the 6000 files for their
copyright was... fun ;))

After a last check the zenoss plugins should be ready to be uploaded to
debian, too.

Luckily twisted 2.5.0 hit Debian a few days ago, too

So what's really missing now is an ehancement to Debian's zope
infrastructure (see the zope-common package, and zope-debhelper for the
packaging part), which allows to install ZEOs and configure Zope
instances to use them in a proper way. Fabio is working on that these days.

Stefano, Fabio and me will meet at the debcamp/debconf7
(http://debconf7.debconf.org) and work on the Zenoss packages, with some
luck we'll have an experimental version ready after those days. (btw,
hint hint, the debconf is always looking for sponsors)

We also need to find a workaround for #1442, until you/we did take care
of it. But I think that's not too hard, at least I hope so.

Then we need to write the maintainer scripts ({pre,post}{inst,rm} ...),
including proper handling of the mysql related parts using Debian's
dbconfig-common.

As you can see, it's not an easy task to package Zenoss in a proper way,
but we're working on it. Not easy means time-consuming, too, unfortunately.

Hope I didn't miss anything.

Cheers,

Bernd

P.S.:
* we're still looking for people who'd like to write manpages
* if you have some free time to test the packaged dependencies, please
do so. (python-pynetsnmp, python-snpp, python-wmi, wmi-client,
zope-ofolder, zope-managableindex, zope-advancedquery are all in
Debian's unstable)
