unfortunately packaging zope 2.12 has turned out to be more complicated
than expected. the new buildout-based build system is a pain for
distributions. exact build depends are expected in order to build a
zope2.12 server, minor version numbers must be correct. in order to
ensure this, buildout downloads the dependency python eggs directly from
a zope webpage, where they are provided.
it should be possible to craft a zope2.12_2.12.orig.tar.gz tarball
containing the zope2.12 source and a mirror of all the required eggs.
that way the build process would not depend on network connectivity.
but i didn't manage to build such a tarball yet.
in my eyes, zope2.12 should be packaged in time for debian/squeeze, but
unfortunately i don't have the time to do so within the next weeks.
nobody else stepped up so far, and fabio even explicitly mentioned
several times that he neither has interest nor time to work on zope2.12
packages. thus the status of zope in debian is unclear.
as admin of several systems which provide lots of zope instances i fear
the day when all these instances need to maintained manually - outside
the debian packaging system. but i don't see who should package zope2.12
apart from me, and as already mentioned, i don't have the time right
now.
greetings,
jonas
