If I use the following command line : 

$ reportbug --debug --smtphost=smtp.azerty.com reportbug
[SNIP]
Submit this report on reportbug (e to edit) [Y|n|a|c|e|i|l|m|p|q|?]? y
Connecting to smtp.azerty.com via SMTP...
SMTP send failure: (-2, 'Nom ou service inconnu')
Wrote bug report to /tmp/reportbug-reportbug-20090504-3753-iJk0ck

where smtp.azerty.com does not exist, reportbug tells me it was unable
to use this server.
