That's weird and I can't replicated it either on my system or in a
clean chroot, but 3 reports are a prove that's something going on.

I first thought it was because of the new dpkg in experimental and
that you might using it, but I've tried also to upgrade that package
(in chroot) but was still able to use reportbug.

It would be helpful if you could run these commands:

$ dpkg --status <pkg name>

$ python -c "from reportbug import utils ; print
utils.get_package_status('<pkg name>')"

and report the results here.
