Hi!
I tested your patch (0001-Stop-using-subprocess.getoutput.patch) and it
works fine for me using C locales and packages where the maintainer's
name has non-ascii chars.
It's not pretty thought (but does not crash, so \0/):
"Maintainer for stressant is 'Antoine Beaupr\xe9 <anarcat at debian.org>'."
Happy to do some more testing if needed.
