i think this means that you give up on your idea to improve a benchmark.

however, if you, or somebody else for that matter, are very persistent 
on this list, you might eventually be told what the narrow focus of the 
shootout will allow in the way of improvments. i wold like to suggest 
that that would be a better time to decide to give up, or not.

the choice is ofcourse always up to the person who is interested in 
improving the benchmarks.
