yes it would be more telling. and it would make it more educational to 
look at the source.

as an answer to your question ''why'', i seem to remember a little 
comment about this test that said that the somewhat unintuitive ordering 
was due to the result from the unix pipe used in the bash 
implementation. all others have suffer because of this. i can not find 
the comment again, and thus might be wrong. if it is the only reason i 
can do a slightly more complex pipe that does the right thing.
