Package: splashy
Severity: important
This is probably the wrong package to blame, but I currently can't locate a
better one.
I've installed a Thinkpad freshly with Squeeze-AMD64 two weeks ago with GRUB2
and splashy, and dist-upgraded regularly. Hibernation worked fine, splashy's
Tux went to sleep and woke up all right.
Some days ago, I realized that apt-get dist-upgrade runs didn't update-
initramfs of the kernel version I'm running (2.6.32-5-amd64), but only the
initial 2.6.32-trunk-amd64. so I ran update-initramfs -k all manually and the
problem started.
With the fresh initrd, the machine would start with the splash screen, but the
Gnome desktop wouldn't appear; the machine is frozen and needs a hard reboot.
To boot anyway, I need to remove "splash" from the kernel cmd line.
I uninstalled splashy, and switched to plymouth, but the problem is the same:
splash screen appears, some more disk access, but no gnome.
