Hello,
I'm looking for an alternative to usplash in Ubuntu Dapper, and found the
splashy project and would like to try it. I'm running on amd64, and have a
hard time getting Splashy to work.

I have searched with google and tried compiling from source, but no luck. Do
you have any suggestions how I do to install Splashy on Dapper 6.06?

Thank you in advance,
/Daniel

The latest release of Splashy will not compile under Dapper. The reason is that we need libdirectfb .25 or up.

You might be able to get an already compiled version (packages.debian.org) that already works with Dapper. This is because Splashy is usually compiled statically, as it requires to work before /usr is mounted on many systems.

The other solution would be to backport libdirectfb from the latest version of packages.debian.org or archive.ubuntu.com. And then get the latest source code of Splashy from the subversion repository.

You might want to join us at #splashy on irc.freenode.net. There is almost always somebody who can help at that channel ;-)

--
----)(-----
