Hello,
Not knowing what to do so that this bug that was present since the launch of Debian 10 is finally corrected, I wrote to you in these terms.
Gdebi crashes as soon as you ask it to install a package.
Choose a package, right click on, choose gdebi to do the job, then it crashes without installing your software
The MX Linux version of gdebi which was patched by the MX developer is working fine, if you want to ask him which patch he must have applied.
The Ubuntu version does not pose any problems either.
Imagine a new Debian user who does not know the commands to use in a terminal. If the software that is supposed to install the packages on its system doesn't work, what will it do? It is very bad publicity for Debian to leave such a big bug in the X-Windows environment. I don't understand that nothing has been done to fix this problem all this time.
Personally I am on Cinnamon but this bug affects all desktop environments from what I have read.
Effectively bug 932088 looks similar.
Please do something to correct this ASAP.
Regards.
Philippe
