Subject: base: swapping on encraypted lvm swap lv leads to deadlock
Package: base
Severity: important
Tags: squeeze

I'm using an encrypted LVM including a swap LV setup. It was created with the
lenny installer. The system locks itself to death when the RAM is full instead
of swapping.
After running out of memory the typical message: "task * blocked for more than
120 seconds." appears. While nothing gets written to the log files. Altough the
system still responds to ping requests it does not respond to anything else.
(tried kernel 2.6.34-1 and 2.6.32-3)

Checking the disk for bad blocks doesn't show any abnormality. Also switching
the swap to a file within an encrypted LV doesn't help and the system shows the
same behaviour. But switching the swap to an unencrypted usb flash drive does
fix the problem and every thing is back to normal.

LVM2: Version: 2.02.66-1
cryptsetup: Version: 2:1.1.2-1
dmsetup: Version: 2:1.02.48-1
udev: Version: 157-1
