Package: base
Severity: important

I installed Debian 6.0.6 XFCE/LXDE from a CD/DVD, and opted for XFCE. I
installed it into my Acer P531H netbook, which originally came with Windows XP
Professional. I encrypted my whole drive in the process. After executing all
the programs to see if they had any problems, I used "aptitude" to install new
ones, and I checked for updates to the old ones that came with the
distribution.

When I finished that, I noticed that my time in the taskbar at the bottom
right, which should have been showing EST (America/New York), 12:50 PM, was
showing 07:50 AM instead. I can not figure out how to change the time in my
Debian 6.0.6 edition, and if I could, would it remain permanent?

When I ran other Linux distros on my pendrives, the times were correct. There
were some distros that I had that showed incorrect time, but I was able to
change it from inside. I did not have to go into the BIOS, however if I went
into the BIOS with my Debian 6.0.6, I am pretty sure that the incorrect time
would still be a problem.

Thank you.
