Package: base
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
I am unsure what exactly led up to it. I tried googling, but to no avail.
It may be to do with sid dist-upgrading, but no bugs were found.
I tried reinstalling alsa or pulse-audio, dpkg-reconfigure, etc. Currently,
when I try to go to Gnome Settings [I'm Debian Sid amd64]

[when playing an mp3 or any sound file, which I used to be able to play...
I reinstalled ffmpeg, libavcodec55 --> I have in my repo - deb-multimedia ...
when I open an audio file with rhythmbox, it says - missing codec!]
My /etc/modprobe.d has no alsa directory ... dunno if that's helpful ...
$aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/*.wav --> this does work ...
Output for lsmod | grep snd

soundcore 13026 1 snd
I am also in the audio group.
So, to summarize the problem: I cannot play audio files from my file system.
There is no sound card recognized (e.g. in Virtualbox, it says no audio)
(e.g. in Banshee, sound is muted, and I cannot change it ... it refuses to play
music . . . same thing with Rhythmbox - it says missing codec) ... but I can
play and hear Youtube videos, Hulu.com, etc., Google Play music from browser,
etc.
