Before filing this bug, I'd tried this by reinstalling the kernel image
as you say, with no luck. However, installing initramfs-tools and
rebuilding the initrd image *did* solve this, so it appears to still be
a bug in yaird.

Sorry for filing this one a dozen or so times--reportbug went very, very
awry.
