The original poster closed this bugreport as being a non-bug, so I
interpret this additional info as a wishlist request for implementing
new additional features in yaird. Please adjust the title if I have
misunderstood the subject of your request. And please say so if in fact
you did not want to file such wishlist bugreport (or simply close the
bugreport yourself).

As for your question: dash is used by the /init script.

I disagree that relying on sane device files on the the host system is
an error.
