The bug reporter delivered the requested information in private, and a
bug in adduser was found. When /etc/skel is unreadable to the world,
the readlink() call which was being done with privileges dropped failed.

The issue is hopefully solved, as readlink code and error handling
have been moved out of the block that runs with dropped privileges.

The fix is committed to svn.
