Content-Description: Draft Rationale
Rationale
There is no doubt that there is a need for Free accounting software,
particularly for small and medium sized businesses. There is such software
out there: see <http://cbbrowne.com/info/financefreesoft.html>.
However, all of these packages suffer from one or more deficiencies:
* Single user
* No dbms
* Incomprehensible license
* Mysql
* No inventory
* No cash transactions
* Poor security
* Web-only interface
* Little or no documentation
* Poor design
The two best are Gnucash and SQL-Ledger. Gnucash is single-user, does not
have a database backend, and does not handle cash transactions or
inventory. SQL-Ledger has only a Web interface, has poor security, and has
no Free documentation.
Thus Advacs: a project to produce a Free business accounting system that
will (we hope) avoid the above deficiencies without falling prey to others
such as excessive ambition.
