It works for me:

$ cd /
$ gdb bin[TAB]
bin/  bind  
$ gdb bin/e[TAB]
$ gdb bin/echo
GNU gdb 6.8-debian
[..]

Please check if you have bash-completion installed (yes, that's the package
name!) :)
