Is bug #215933, is this still a problem?  CDBS 0.4.17 added calls to
dh_gconf in gnome.mk.  This should deal w/ gconf as needed in
postinst/postrm scripts.  Looking at your example postinst/postrm, it
would appear that dh_gconf implements a similar postinst, but there's no
postrm; instead, there's a prerm.  Does this satisfy gconf/gnome
requirements?
