Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.21
Severity: wishlist

I see the TODO file for cdbs mentions:

 * Handle packages which build multiple versions with different ./configure
   flags.

I'm working on packaging newer upstream versions of the xerces
libraries. I was thinking of using cdbs. The xerces libaries fall
into the above category. I will attempt to handle this package in a
way that stays true to the spirit of cdbs (keeping detailed knowledge
out of the debian/rules) file. If this is successful, I'll send
patches or new rules files for cdbs. I wanted to mention this in a
bug report in case it triggers someone to mention that they're 90%
through with this or to offer words of wisdom, etc. :-) I have written
a build system very similar in spirit to cdbs for my employer. It
consists of lots of little gnu make fragments. Client makefiles set
variables and include a file. In other words, I think that I "grok"
what cdbs is trying to do. It looks very compelling.
