As you also mention, I would assume that above routine respects (lack 
of) explicit package-declared support for parallel build.

Reason I ask here is that you mentioned using a trick to force parallel 
builds, _ignoring_ (lack of) hints in the package.  *That* is what I ask 
if you could please try if still fails.

Reason I ask is because you are more familiar with parallel builds - 
including experience with multiple approaches (where I only _know_ of 
those methods well enough to ask sceptical questions about them).

In a nutshell: I consider enabling support for parallel build for cdbs, 
and as a prerequisite I here consult an expert in the fields: You!
