I'm afraid that I no longer recall how I ended up with these chroots, I
think it very likely I just used sbuild-createchroot in the normal way.

I have a vague recollection of working around this issue at the time
by, I think, removing the /dev/shm symlink in my chroots. Looking in a
few of them I see that /dev/shm is a directory in them for me now, and
it is a directory in a freshly created chroot as well.

I'm inclined to suggest it has either been fixed in the interim or was
a transient issue with some package within the chroot (which was making
/dev/shm a symlink) which has gone now.

IOW I reckon this can be closed and I'll reopen/refile if I come across
it again next time I have cause to create some fresh chroots.
