I doubt that they need a special case. They are either co-maintainers like
in 1 or simply provide patches in the BTS.

collab-maint is a project whose goal is to let all DD work together on
many packages. 

Thus many people are maintaining their packages inside this repository.

And collab-maint is also the project to create the infrastructure to make
this work more easy and effective. :)
