the environment variables are not documented in the d-g-i manpage
because you're not expected to use them. however, as a general
rule i welcome suggestions on how to improve documentation :)

again, suggestions (and patches) welcome. i'll try and get around to
adding some.

the idea was that for "most" people, they're installing on the same
machine as the db, so it lowers the total number of questions that they
are asked. perhaps what would be a best-of-both-worlds solution would
be to try and autodetect whether or not *a* db server is running on
the local server. if there is no detected db server, then we could
bump up the priorities of the questions so that they would show up.
if this seems reasonable, please open up a wishilist bug for it, to
help me keep track of things :)
