I don know about the coldfire kernel (we do have the sources right ?), but for
powerquicc stuff, the serial console was renamed to ttyCPM, not ttyS0.

So, i would hunt the source code for the serial driver and see what device is
used. Or maybe it is even indicated in the doc or something.
