Maybe you have this bug:

it is solved in 2.6.31-rc1, so it will be automatically solved with 2.6.31.

Are you sure it is eth0 and not ath0?
I have the same EeePC as you and wifi is working here.

I think this is because a new xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. Try with
the TapButton1, 2, 3 config of the synaptics package. You can also
