hmmm... the reading i had done was all related to the rt2860 firmware...

root at mishmar:/usr/src/linux-2.6.31.9# gcc --version
gcc (Debian 4.4.2-6) 4.4.2

BTW, I compile on my desktop PC "the debian way" using fakeroot make-kpkg ..
then i install the .deb on the eeepc...
