Hi David,
to get rid of this, adjust your monitor settings, so that ASCII (=console) is
looking fine for you. If you do so, X will not be in the middle any more. To
correct this, you can easily correct the X settings. There is a tool named
xsettings available (SuSE can correct via sax, others can be corrected by
xsetup).
This is a well known problem, and many people only adjust in X with the
monitor settings and forget about the console.
