You can easily confirm it:
$ grep ^flags /proc/cpuinfo
You should see a flag named "lm" in there. (Not "lahf_lm"; that's something
different.) If that flag is present, you can install and use
linux-image-*-amd64 even if you don't want amd64 userland.
(Adding the content of /proc/cpuinfo to our 1005P page would be useful.)
