i have

# more /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf 
options i915 modeset=1

i tried modeset=0, but it didn't help X vesa to use 1366x768 mode, so i
left it as is.

i915 does not get automatically loaded.  i was able to load it
manually.  should i add that to /etc/modules?
