[Debian-eeepc-devel] Bug#610278: eeepc-acpi-scripts: Backlight settings are forgotten when moving the mouse

Package: eeepc-acpi-scripts
Version: 1.1.11
Severity: normal

The backlight settings have no memory when going between "awake" or "asleep"
settings and back again. I do not mean actually shutting down the computer, I
just mean not doing anything for a while until the backlight dims.

For example, If I lower the backlight to the minimum, it will only stay at the
minimum until I don't do anything for a while. Then it will "Dim" the
backlight, which actually makes the backlight brighter. But that's expected.
I would expect there to be two brightness settings, one for when you are
active, and one for when it is resting. But the real problem is, that when I
move the mouse again, waking it up out of the "dimmed" state, it completely
ignores any settings I chose when it was last "awake", and rather than
returning to the minimum brightness, I chose minutes agol, resets it to the
default "awake" brightness.

This effectively takes away *any* ability I have to choose the backlight
brightness, because if I ever take a rest from typing or moving the mouse, my
backlight settings will be instantly lost forever. I really would be satisfied
with *any* solution that would cause the computer to remember my backlight
settings.

I have the lines

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet acpi_osi=Linux"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

in /etc/default/grub . I'm not 100% certain which package this bug report
belongs in, but this is my best guess, as it seems to be responsible for
backlight settings.

I'm using a 1005PE netbook.
