Dear all,

I am struggling to make my brand new Asus EeePC 1215B produce any sound
in a Debian Squeeze installation.

Note: I am with a 32bit installation.

RESEARCHING (on Debian Squeeze)
-------------------------------

The mixer icon shows the following devices:
- HDA ATI SB (alsa mixer): with Master, PCM...
- HD Audio Generic (alsa mixer): with a tick switch for IEC958
- ATI Rx6xxx HDMI (OSS mixer), since backporting alsa-base from Ubuntu
   Oneiric

Here is the lspci info for the audio devices

00:01.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc Device 1314
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
(rev 40) 0

with PCI ID's:

00:01.1 0403: 1002:1314
00:14.2 0403: 1002:4383 (rev 40)

The output of lsmod | grep snd:

snd_hda_codec_realtek 207702 1
snd_hda_codec_hdmi 21870 1
snd_hda_intel 21529 2

snd_page_alloc 12841 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm

What I have tested so far:
--------------------------

* Installing a 2.6.39 kernel from Debian backports

* Compiling alsa modules from alsa-source package 1.0.23 (Deb squeeze)
   for the 2.6.32 kernel.

* Backporting alsa-base and libasound2 (dropping multiarch) from
Ubuntu Oneiric. Tested in 2.6.32 and 2.6.39 kernels

What I have been unabled to do
------------------------------

* Compiling alsa-source 1.0.23 for the 2.6.39 kernel (dependencies on
the BKL in the alsa code).

*  Compiling alsa-source 1.0.24 (from Oneiric alsa-source backported
package) for the 2.6.39 kernel (compilation error with a init.h
   kernel header).

Next steps that I am trying
---------------------------

* Trying to adapt the compilation errors in alsa-source 1.0.24

*  Backporting alsa-utils and alsa-tools from Oneiric

* Compile a 3.0.0 kernel (Oneiric) from the Oneiric or Sid.

Of course any more ideas are welcome.

Regards,
