xkbset is an alternative CLI (for the AccessX interface) and already
packaged at least for Debian. Have they considered using that one
instead? I've given the package you mentioned above a quick look and
it's Makefile looks horrible from a distro maintainers POV. Besides it
doesn't even compile anymore, i.e. needs to get patched first.
