I believe actually that no progress happens here, or at least not
officially: There is no open bug about it at
http://bugs.debian.org/etoys
I recommend for someone interested (you, David?) to file a bugreport
against the Debian package "etoys" requesting it be moved to "main".
Before doing so, I suggest reading the file
/usr/share/doc/etoys/README.non-free distributed with that package, to
best possible understand what it is you are requesting (i.e. what is the
current reasoning by the package maintainer).
NB! Please beware that "Etoys" in this context is the actual tool being
wrapped by a Sugar activity by the same upstream name (but expected to
be named "sugar-etoys-activity" when packaged for Debian).
The package maintainer of etoys knows about Sugar, but others reading
the bugreport might not. So you help ease bug handling if you do *not*
talk about Etoys as being the Sugar activity.
