[Debian-olpc-devel] Bug#512258: doesn't happen if run via ssh from remote host

It gets even more strange:
Using the following invocation (while logged in on a virtual console) 
from my workstation, it _won't_ happen:

startx $(which ssh) sugar at aquarium.local ./.xinitrc -- :2

The same one issued locally (whether with or without ssh) will trigger 
the bug.

I don't think I'll investigate any further, but if anybody else ever 
gets caught by this bug, this information might help debugging the 
issue.
