Oh, I forgot earlier: You might wonder if it isn't smarter to leave in 
that patchsys-quilt snippet when it is clumsy to change later on.  The 
newer packaging trend is to abandon explicit quilt routines and instead 
switch to a newer packaging source format called "3.0 quilt" which 
handles that internally.

New format is a bit rough to use still (not fully supported by 
git-buildpackage as example) so I suggest not using it yet if not 
necessary, but it is better than patchsys-quilt when patching does 
become necessary.
