I get the same behaviour from traetta (leda's host) and from another
completely-unrelated-to-Debian UBC machine (eye.iun.ubc.ca).

Meanwhile, performance from linode.emyr.net (a VPS in Fremont CA USA) is good.

I'll add comments to my email thread already started with UBC IT's NMC manager.
