There you are. I have simplified Generate_List() a whole lot, and it should be 
possible to simplify a lot more still, because IIUC the .package files now 
hold just one arch each (with 'all' in a separate file), so no filtering of 
the entries should ever be needed. If nobody protests I plan to move/merge my 
branch to the trunk soon.

I'm thinking though ... wouldn't it make sense to put a bit more data in the 
databases? Right now they're just used to keep track of which versions of 
which packages are in which dists, and in particular which versions of which 
packages are in at least *one* dist, and thus should be kept in the pool. 
Those .package and .source files in the pool are a bit nonstandard, aren't 
they?

This brings us to one of the major issues: rebuilding the databases 
(--rebuild-dbs, bug #291296)...
