+Lionel Elie Mamane, with his Mailman package maintainer hat on, <a

+reported</a> that the actual version of Mailman in etch (2.1.9) will not have
+an upgrade path to the most probably version of lenny (2.2.x).  This is because
+of a change in the file format of how data is stored, Mailman 2.1.10 will have
+an <q>export</q> binary to a neutral XML format and Mailman 2.2 will have an
+<q>import</q> binary that can read this new format.  Considering this, Lionel
+requested a freeze-exception to update mailman (or to allow a point-release
+update later) to add the export utility to etch's mailman package.</p>
