There's also a recent bug report on launchpad [1].

To summarize current knowledge of this bug (quote from Steffen): The 
problem does not appear when the client cannot connect to the server. It 
is repaired when the size of the window is changed. In addition, my 
trial seems to show that 2.8.10.1+dfsg-4 is good, while 2.8.12.1-7 is 
bad, and a comment on the gentoo bug tracker noted 2.8.11.0 is good, too.
