Why do I use gopher? Here's a (not very in-depth) analysis:
- Fat-free content: I don't have jump through a load of GUI-based
hoops just to locate the weather for London,
England; I can just go to the weather feed at Floodgap
<gopher://floodgap.com/1/>.
- Consistent interface: I don't have to switch mental gears due to any
chrome slapped on a gopherhole whereas
I probably would have to on most "Web 2.0" sites.
- No ugly formatting: I don't have to navigate a purple-on-black
website filled with GIFs to get to an interesting
factoid I'm planning on incorporating into an email.
- Nostalgia: the freshness of exploring something old come alive again.
- Love of all things Unixy/related to the KISS principle: sort of
related to 1 and 2 but just about the simplicity of
the interface; by Unixy I mean conforming to the Unix/X philosophy.
P.S the last two are rushed due to time constraints.
