[gopher] New gopher proposal

As for teh New Gopher Proposal(tm), could I have a way to have the client send metadata to the server? Please? Pretty please? Pretty please with chocolate dressing on top? Beer? What are we talking about?

The most awesome gopher server of them all, Gophernicus,  supports charset conversions and variable width output, but since clients cannot tell their preferences to the server it's all unused. Boo-hoo.
