Right now, the client tries to connect to a server by its hostname. Separately
for each commit. This would mean that a git push could result in
notifications scattered across all the bots. A cosmetic inconvenience,
but still. (BTW this would be avoided in a future version I am working
on, in which a stream of commits is sent in a single request).
I was also thinking about having 'kgb-X.debian.net' (iow, using
debian.net as a stable DNS redirector). That would work today. Not
sure if we could make these CNAMEs for kgb.debian.net if we choose to
go with DNs RR later.
Another idea I had was to make kgb-client understand 'include'
configuration option and provide a single list of all the servers for
all alioth projects. This would allow us to change hostnames and ports
without bothering users.
What stopped me every time from pushing any of these ideas was that
contacting dozens of projects and asking them to make changes to their
working configurations would not be fun. Perhaps I am just too
hesitant :)
