I tested this on s390x, and straight s390x as well as s390x/s390 tracing
seem to work well (two fixlets were necessary, both are now on master).
The test case parameters.exp is very broken on both, but I'll take care
of that on the revamp branch.

This is now on revamp branch.  The new back end is called simply "x86".
The test suite now passes cleanly on all thinkable x86 combinations.
