Initial Comment:
the gamatronic driver was a little 'bare'.  This patch includes completes SEC protocol functionality - it adds instant commands and the ability to set variables.  Additional (original) variables are enabled using the command line flags.

Serial receive routine has been augmented to not wait 1 up to second to receive an end-of-line character that will never come.  Instead, a timeout based per-character technique is employed.  The choice of which routine to use is done using command line args, and defaults to the original (slow) version.  Note that with the original version, poll rate (because of the 1 second wait).
