Okay, sorry, I misunderstood.

I believe XMMS and early Audacious had its own file selector, which
probably supported click-and-drag (so-called "rubber band") selection.
Current Audacious simply uses the file selector provided by GTK+, so
changes to it (like supporting rubber band selection) need to be made
within GTK+.
