My apologies for the silence.  I thought I'd sent a follow-up to the bug, but 
now I see that I hadn't.  

The status is that I have uploaded 1.60  with the bug fixed.  It is waiting NEW 
processing.  Unfortunately, my time for debian is too limited to allow an 
upload for 1.58.  But NMUs are certainly welcomed.
